About The Club

1989 – 2017: 28 Years and still going strong!

The VW Challenge Series is a one manufacturer series and as such there are no other vehicle brands that compete. The direct association with the Volkswagen brand, being a well-respected vehicle manufacturer stands the Series in good stead, as the cars are seen as reliable and safe whilst also being viewed as “Peoples cars”.

One of the biggest draw cards to the VW Challenge Series is the affordability of this form of racing. VW parts are freely available and are less expensive than in many other categories that are currently running, whilst Volkswagen supports the series by making original spares available at very competitive pricing.

THE CHAMPIONSHIP

The VW Challenge Championship is run over 9 races, normally from February to November each season. Race formats consist of two heats on race day ranging between 8 to 15 laps per heat depending on the length of the circuit.

The championship is a Northern Regions Championship and events planned for the 2017 season are provisionally scheduled to be held at the following race circuits:
• Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit – Midrand
• Zwartkops Raceway – Pretoria
• Phakisa Freeway – Welkom
• Prince Albert Raceway – East London
• RedStar Raceway - Delmas
• Midvaal Raceway - Meyerton

The 2017 field is divided up into three distinct classes:

Class B

Class C
Class C caters for more standard type cars with limited modifications. This budget class is the fastest growing class in the series. The cars are powered by the VW 8v Long Block 2.0L engine with limited modifications. In a bid to save further costs these cars race on a durable, performance roadtyre – Dunlop SP7000D.
